Herb Infused Olive Oil

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2-3 sprigs of fresh herbs (such as rosemary, thyme, basil, or oregano)
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic, peeled and lightly crushed (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon whole black peppercorns (optional)
  • Clean, dry glass bottle or jar with a tight-fitting lid

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Herbs:

a. Wash and thoroughly dry the fresh herbs. Make sure they are completely dry to prevent mold formation in the infused oil.

2. Combine Ingredients:

a. In a small saucepan, gently warm the olive oil over low heat. You want it to be warm but not hot.

b. Add the fresh herbs and, if desired, the peeled and lightly crushed garlic cloves and whole black peppercorns to the warmed olive oil.

3. Infuse the Oil:

a. Let the herbs steep in the warm olive oil for about 15-20 minutes. This allows the flavors to infuse into the oil.

b. If you prefer a stronger flavor, you can let it infuse for a longer period, but be cautious not to over-infuse, as the flavors can become too intense.

4. Strain and Bottle:

a. After infusing, remove the herbs, garlic, and peppercorns from the oil using a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth.

b. Pour the infused oil into a clean, dry glass bottle or jar with a tight-fitting lid.

5. Store:

a. Seal the bottle or jar tightly and store the Herb Infused Olive Oil in a cool, dark place. It’s best to use it within 1-2 weeks to enjoy the freshest flavors.

6. Enjoy:

a. Use your homemade Herb Infused Olive Oil to add delightful flavor to salads, roasted vegetables, grilled bread, pasta dishes, and more.

Note: To extend the shelf life of your infused oil, you can store it in the refrigerator, but keep in mind that it may become cloudy when chilled. Allow it to come to room temperature before using for the best flavor.
